Tired of Blurry Vision? Replace Your Natural Eye Lens

How Would You Describe Your Eyesight?

  • Clear up-close vision, blurry distance vision
  • Clear distance vision, blurry up-close vision
  • Blurry reading vision
  • Blurry vision at all distances

RLE May Restore Clear Vision to Your Life!

When it comes to your vision, sometimes artificial is actually better than the real thing! Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE) is a procedure that is done to gently remove a tired, overworked eye lens and replace it with an artificial one that is functionally superior.

RLE in Colorado Springs can be done to address the effects of presbyopia on your vision. This is the medical term for the stiffening of the natural eye lens – a condition that happens to most people over age 40. One way to combat presbyopia is by wearing reading glasses or bifocals. However, many people are completely against using these vision aids to read up-close because they are very obvious signs of growing older. RLE can be performed to not only restore clear reading vision but also prevent you from getting cataracts later on in life.

Wait – no cataracts? This is one of the added benefits of having RLE. Because the new lens is artificial, it will not be subject to natural proteins building up on the lens – the root cause of cataracts. Plus, the lens will stay flexible over time.

How RLE is Done

Prior to the procedure, your eyes are numbed with eye drops. Our doctors then make a small incision on your eye to fragment your natural lens and remove it from your eye. Then the new lens is inserted through the very same incision. There is no need for any stitches – the incision will heal naturally on its own. Most patients need about a week to recover from this procedure and full vision results may take about 4 weeks.

Replacement Lens Options

The artificial lens that is inserted into your eye is called an Intraocular Lens (IOL). You’ll hear a lot about different IOL types when you start considering RLE or cataract surgery. That’s because IOL technology has absolutely exploded with amazing opportunities to provide you with the very best vision possible after surgery.

At The Wright Eye Center, we work hard to help our patients fully understand what IOL options exist, how each one can improve vision and the costs associated with each type. Here is a quick overview of some of the options we offer:

  • Multifocal IOLs: has multiple focusing zones which are built into the lens to allow clear vision at multiple distances
  • Toric IOLs: designed to correct astigmatism
  • Trifocal IOL: the PanOptix® IOL allows a full range of vision

Our team has performed numerous of RLE procedures, helping free many patients from the constraints of reading glasses and bifocals. Contact us today to schedule a no-obligation, free RLE Consultation in Colorado Springs to find out if this procedure might be right for you!
