Advanced Technology Options

Some patients want to go beyond basic cataract surgery and customize their visual outcome further. For those patients, the Wright Eye Center offers advanced technology options that may help improve precision, address astigmatism, or reduce dependence on glasses.

These options are reviewed during your cataract consultation and are recommended based on your eye measurements, visual goals, lifestyle, and overall eye health.

Laser-Assisted Cataract Surgery

Laser-assisted cataract surgery uses advanced laser technology to help perform certain steps of cataract surgery with a high level of precision.

Depending on your treatment plan, the laser may be used to help create precise incisions, assist with the opening of the lens capsule, soften the cataract before removal, and help manage certain types of astigmatism.

Laser-assisted cataract surgery is an optional advanced technology option and may not be necessary for every patient.

ORA Intraoperative Measurement

ORA is an intraoperative measurement system used during cataract surgery. It allows the surgeon to take additional measurements while the patient is in the operating room.

These measurements can help refine lens implant decisions and confirm parts of the surgical plan in real time. ORA may be especially helpful for certain patients, including those with astigmatism, prior LASIK or PRK, or those choosing advanced lens implants.

ORA is an optional technology and is typically discussed as part of an advanced cataract surgery plan.

Helping You Choose the Right Cataract Plan

Cataract surgery is not one-size-fits-all. Some patients are best served with a monofocal lens. Others may benefit from advanced technology, astigmatism management, or upgraded lens implants. During your cataract evaulation, we will discuss:

Our goal is not to push every patient toward the same option. Our goal is to help you understand the trade-offs clearly so you can make a confident decision.

A helpful way to think about advanced cataract surgery is this:

The goal is not to promise perfect vision without glasses. The goal is to create the best plan for your eyes and reduce dependence on glasses when appropriate.
