Expectations Around Surgery
What to Expect Before Surgery
Your cataract evaluation includes a detailed eye exam and advanced measurements to evaluate the health and shape of your eyes.
These measurements help us determine:
- Whether cataracts are the main cause of your symptoms
- Which lens implant options may be appropriate
- Whether astigmatism correction should be considered
- Whether advanced technology options may be helpful
- Whether any other eye conditions could affect your outcome
- What expectations are realistic for your vision after surgery
We will walk you through the process, answer your questions, and explain your options in clear language.
What to Expect on Surgery Day
Cataract surgery is performed one eye at a time in our attached outpatient surgery center. Most patients are at the surgery center for a relatively short period of time and return home the same day.
Because our surgery center is attached to our clinical practice, patients benefit from a streamlined experience in a familiar environment. Our team is focused on making the day as comfortable, efficient, and well-organized as possible.
What to Expect After Surgery Day
Most patients notice improvement in their vision within the first few days after cataract surgery, although healing and visual adjustment can continue over several weeks.
After surgery, we will monitor your healing and provide instructions for activity, eye protection, medications, and follow-up visits.
It is normal for vision to fluctuate early in the healing process. Dryness, glare, mild irritation, or scratchiness can occur temporarily. Our team will explain what is expected and when to call if something does not feel right.
